Will Bull-Cephus Break the 100-Inch Barrier?
At McBee Farms, we take immense pride in our cattle and over the last few years, have been working hard to establish our long horn herd. One bull in particular has been turning heads—our two-year-old Texas Longhorn, Bull-Cephus. Named with a nod to Hank Williams Jr.'s nickname "Bocephus," this young bull embodies the spirit and strength of the breed.
Currently, Bull-Cephus has grown an impressive 68-inch tip-to-tip horn spread. To put that into perspective, Texas Longhorn bulls typically achieve around 50% of their mature horn length by the age of two . This puts Bull-Cephus well on the path to potentially reaching the elite 100-inch mark—a milestone that few attain.
Horn growth in Longhorns is most rapid between 6 and 36 months of age . Given Bull-Cephus's current measurements and the critical growth phase he's entering, the prospect of him achieving or even surpassing the 100-inch benchmark is within reach - as long as we keep him well fed with the right feed and make sure his stress levels are kept to a minimal.
Achieving such a feat isn't solely about genetics; it's also about providing optimal nutrition, care, and environment. At McBee Farms, we're committed to ensuring Bull-Cephus has everything he needs to thrive and reach his full potential.
We're thrilled to watch Bull-Cephus's journey and will keep you updated on his progress. Reaching the 100-inch mark would not only be a testament to his exceptional genetics but also a significant achievement for our cattle program.
Stay tuned for more updates on Bull-Cephus and other exciting happenings at McBee Farms!
